Who can apply for the SAPS student posts?
Read these conditions together. Meeting the age and education requirements alone does not guarantee selection.
- You must be a South African citizen and provide documentary proof.
Applicants must agree to fingerprint and buccal-sample checks, background enquiries and security vetting. The advert also describes physical, medical, psychological and integrity requirements. SAPS makes the assessment of suitability; this article cannot determine an individual applicant’s medical or security eligibility.
Is a driver’s licence or tertiary qualification compulsory?
The additional-requirements section gives preference to applicants with a valid light-motor-vehicle driver’s licence and identifies qualification categories that receive preference. These include relevant three-year qualifications at NQF Level 6 or higher, such as policing or forensic investigation; other three-year qualifications at that level; and Grade 12 results meeting bachelor’s-degree admission requirements.
The generic minimum education requirement remains Grade 12 or equivalent. The advert presents the licence and qualification categories as preferences, so they should not be confused with a promise that every Matric applicant will be shortlisted. SAPS verifies qualifications and licences where applicable.
What does the R5,000 stipend mean?
The official vacancy page lists a stipend of R5,000. It does not specify a payment frequency, training duration, accommodation arrangements or the salary after training in the information reviewed. Do not budget on an assumed monthly amount or additional benefits until SAPS confirms the terms.
How to apply online for TRA26/27
- Open the official advert. Check that the reference is TRA26/27 and that applications remain active.
Need guidance? Use the official SAPS How To Apply page. GraduateRoom does not receive applications. Submit personal documents through the official portal rather than sending them to this website.
Prepare before starting your application
GraduateRoom’s advice is to have your identity and education details ready, together with your current address and a driver’s licence if applicable. Check that names, dates and qualification details match your records. The advert requires documentary proof for several conditions; follow the actual upload instructions rather than assuming a particular certification date, file format or form is required.
Apply early enough to resolve account or upload problems. Do not create duplicate applications to correct an error: use the recruitment portal’s support guidance. The vacancy page requires applicants to affirm that their information is truthful.
What happens after you apply?
The recruitment process includes fitness, psychometric and integrity testing, medical evaluation and an interview. SAPS also verifies citizenship, qualifications, residential address and any applicable driver’s licence. Vetting can include reference checks, social media checks and fingerprint verification.
The advert notes that health conditions affecting participation in training may be assessed and that failing to disclose a condition can lead to withdrawal. Read the full medical wording and answer the official questions honestly; do not self-assess from a shortened checklist.
Only successful applicants will receive correspondence. SAPS says applicants who hear nothing within three months after the closing date should regard their application as unsuccessful. Taking part in assessments does not guarantee appointment.
Do you have to pay to apply?
No recruitment participation fee should be paid. SAPS explicitly warns applicants against paying anyone to participate in its recruitment process. An offer to secure a place for a payment should not be treated as an official appointment.
Does the portal’s start date mean training starts on 21 October?
No. The vacancies table uses 21 October 2026 as the advert’s start date. It is the application opening date in this listing, not a confirmed training commencement date. The full vacancy page does not provide a training start date.
